So, today's adventure began at the metro-here's howesan preparing to rock harajuku and takeshita street.
There was a poster for a news team, we assumed. it reminded us of anchorman.
Then we got to Harajuku! it was raining...
And immediately found the best store ever!
It had wall-to-wall socks. It even had socks on the
Merry Sox-Mas, Howesan!
There were all kinds of socks. Argyle Socks, Toe Socks, Striped Socks, Spotted Socks... even socks that questioned your identity...

As you can see... wall to wall socks...

Then we continued down takeshita street and found many other crazy stores full of crazy socks...
1) Monster Cat, It eats up and eats as all human beings

Then, when we reached the point where takeshita-dori intersected with harajuku-dori, there was this au design studio... we thought it was cool so we went in. best decision ever.
They had some fantastic soccer balls in honor of the world cup. Look!

Then there was Lismo, the mobile listening squirrel everywhere... look how cute!
He's listening to music on his phone!
Sarah's listening to music on his phone too!
The next floor up had a robot controlled by phone. it was sweet.

Then, they had they had a video program too. It identified what professions you were suited for based on a pic it took of you. Howesan apparently looks like an artist... *shrug*

and here's harajuku-dori. It has bigger shops than takeshita dori, but isn't as much fun.
The intersection...
By the time we got down to the first floor, there was a band playing. We went and watched them. The guy in front of us introduced himself and while the band was being introduced-the guy who sat in front of us pointed out that his music video was playing behind them. Apparently he's in some japanese heavy metal band. but he was really nice.
We think the thing going on was something akin to an audition thing for american idol, exept it was bands, and the people singing didn't suck.
Then we had some lunch at a Mission: Impossible themed resturant. It was owned by MTV Japan. There was a guy hanging from the ceiling. They had awesome shirts that said: To make sounds is to breathe out, to feel sounds is to inhale, our music is breathing... but it was 40 bucks...
I had the nachos and howesan had fried chicken. The bathroom sign was pretty kick-ass too.
Next we found a giant store... like a mall but much more vertical. It was pretty cool- look! howesan and the maniquin(sp?) are rockin'
At one store, there was a fantastic chair. Howesan sat in it because it looked awesome and comfortable but it was even better than it looked. It played music. no wonder it was $3.5k. Seriously, most awesome chair ever. It had a nice soundsystem inside.
There was a store there with hats. so we put some on! None fit either of us... for opposite head-size reasons.
oh, and howesan took the best picture of me ever. the one in the bottom right above... i'm reposting it becase i'm impressed with her mad photo skillz.
Here's a shirt with an umbrella and RNA... yay!
And here's a rainboot that's fantastic! if it wasn't approximately 150 bucks i would have bought the pair.
Then,when we got to the top story, we saw a film festival.
So we paid 15 bucks and went in. It was all subtitled in japanese becuase it was part of an american film festival. So, other international films were subtitled in english too. It was pretty cool.
As we left the mall, we saw where they were giving out bags in exchange for filling out a survey. But, this woman saw us waiting in line and said to us, "sorry, only for Japanese"
if that happend in the US they'd have been slapped with a lawsuit- but... we're obviously not japanese... so we left without our free bags.
Then we went back through takeshita dori towards the metro and saw some more random shops... BANANA FISH?! BANANA FISH!
um.... yeah...
Here are some already completed harajuku costumes... we didn't see anyone dressed this extravagantly but some people dressed pretty interestingly.. like those pix i posted before.
There were some pretty sweet shirts too. (different store than above)
Then, before we hit the metro, we went to the snoopy town shop. It was cute!
Howesan did a fantastic impression of charlie brown!
Finally, we went to a sushi place. It was really good. at the end we had some icecream with sweet soybean powder and both of us agreed that we'd rather have the powder than sprinkles at home. it's that awesome.
Then we took the metro back and chilled. It was all in all a rockin' day.
