So, on Sunday a bunch of us went back to the festival because the kids in the anthropology program said their professor said that there would be ninjas there. now that I think about it... it seems kind of stupid. why would there be ninjas there? I don't know, but i really wanted to see ninjas so I went back.
And there was more of the same... Mikoshi

and after a few mikoshi went by, we had lunch. It was a yakisaba, okonomi-yaki, and monja place...basically cook your own food. it was pretty cool.
look! it's the other side of the table(Danielle, Jessie, and Kristina (l->r))
and here's instructions on how to make your food.
Jessie and Kristina make Okonomi-yaki...kinda like a funny omlette...
Stefania and I made yakisoba together... i made us cook the meat separaely... she didn't care though because she just wanted to eat asap.
ok, more of the same.. music things in the street... oh, but yesterday (sunday) was the last day of the festival and the the Salarymen(businessmen) didn't have work so they came and it was sooooo crouded. in certian places you couldn't move. Actually, you had to move with thie flow of traffic, there was a constant shuffling of feet that carried you whether you wanted to go or not. craaazy. (like craisens?)
Here was a mini-temple. It was called benten-do temple and it enshrined benzai-ten, a goddess of fortune.

then we stopped and chilled for a while.

allright, so it was about 4 by this time and the ninja thing was supposed to happen at 6 so we staked out a spot. and stood there. for much too long.

ooh, doesn't the pagoda look like a cell phone tower? like those fake trees that pretend to not be for cell phones? that's
so, the pagoda and me....

so as it got dark, the police sectioned the main entrance. and we were like... "cool! ninja cage fight! WWF style.. i wonder if there'll be chair throwing..."

pretty much everyone who was holding a mikoshi over the past 3 days filed through... it took forever...
like ten minutes later...same thing...
Finally, the last mikoshi arrived.: people and the final mikoshi
ok, around 8:30 i got fed up and asked the japanese people around me what was going to happen and they were like.. the mikoshi will come in and then it will end. and so for the last half hour of waiting i was kind of bummed. the thing ended around 9:45ish and i felt like i'd been jipped.(sp?) but meh. it was sorta cool but it was just about everything i'd seen the day before. also, Jessie, Kristina, and Stef all left around 8 because they were tired but i decided that i hadn't been standing there for 4 hours for nothing. Danielle went down to a differnt part with some guys earlier so i was there alone for quite some time. I think that's why I finally asked people around me what was going on.
anywho, here's everyone leaving.
one musice thing kept playing as people left.
and people with food were trying to sell the last of it...
and everyone went to the subway. it was packed.
oh, that building with the funny gold thingy and the building to the left of it belong to a beer company. the green-triangle building is gold during the day and the triangles are grey/white then so it's supposed to resemble a mug of beer.
also note the no u-turn sign. ha, it looks so odd because they drive on the other side of the road.
then i went home and my feet were sooo sad. too much standing.....
